NewsFlash! ("we", "us", "our") provides a news aggregation app for Guyana. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and your choices.

Information We Collect

1. Account information (if you sign in) — Name and email (for example, via Google sign-in).
2. App usage data — Basic analytics about how you use the app (screens viewed, taps).
3. Device and notification data — Device identifiers and push notification tokens used to deliver alerts.
4. Preferences and interactions — Selected categories, saved favourites, and votes.
5. AI chat interactions — We process your chat prompts and responses to generate answers. We store limited metadata (for example, message lengths and hashes) for safety, rate limiting, and quality feedback.
6. Public content — We aggregate publicly available news and social content to display in the app. We do not claim ownership of that content.

How We Collect News Content

NewsFlash! aggregates publicly available news from selected Guyanese news outlets. We want to be transparent about how this works:

1. Public APIs and RSS feeds — We collect article headlines, excerpts, and links from publicly available RSS feeds and WordPress JSON APIs that news publishers make available for syndication.
2. Robots.txt compliance — Our automated systems respect each publisher's robots.txt file, including crawl-delay directives and disallowed paths. We do not access restricted areas of any website.
3. Attribution and linking — Every article displayed in the app is attributed to its original source and links back to the publisher's website. We drive traffic to publishers, not away from them.
4. Excerpts only — We display article previews and summaries, not full articles. Users are directed to the original source for the complete content.
5. Publisher requests — If any publisher wishes to be removed from NewsFlash!, we will promptly comply. Contact us at kayoe.ktb@gmail.com.

How We Use Information

• Provide and improve the app experience.
• Deliver push notifications you opt into.
• Personalize content and ranking.
• Maintain security and prevent abuse.

Sharing and Processors

We use third-party services (such as Firebase/Google) to host data and deliver notifications. We also use Google's AI services to generate chat responses when you use the AI assistant. We do not sell your personal data.

Data Retention

We keep data as long as needed to operate the app or until you request deletion. Specific retention periods:

• Chat rate-limit logs: up to 2 hours.
• Chat feedback metadata: up to 30 days.
• Articles: up to 30 days (rolling cleanup).
• Comments and profile data: retained until deleted by you or removed under moderation.

Your Choices

• You can disable notifications at any time in the app.
• You can request deletion of your data (see Data Deletion Instructions).
